Does not work on Geo Prizms?
I would like to see if it works on Geo Prizms. Geo Prizm is made by NUMMI (GM and Toyota joint venture). Any ideas?

Nice gadget
This product is handy to have to locate a source of a "Service Engine Soon" light. It merely grounds the ECM engine pin or the ABS brake pin which are located in the diagonsitc port under the dash and causes the SES light to flash the ECM codes. A paper clip can do the same thing but the GM Code Reader is better because it a accurate and positive fit. The GM Code Reader will only indicate the ECM code and will not tell you anything else after the SES light is seen. Then you must determine what is causing the code to appear. This product is a OBD-1 Code Reader for 1982-1993/4 vehicles and is not the OBD-2 Code Scanner that must be used on the 1995 and later vehicles. The latter has a screen and gives more information with the code. Using the GM Code Reader is a fifteen minute job and gives you a good starting point for locating the trouble and saves you $90 or more by not requiring a so-called "professional" auto mechanic do it for you. It will more than pay for itself after you use it one time.
The first code I observed when I first used the GM Code Reader on my 1991 Chevrolet S10 Blazer SUV was the infamous Code 32, a EGR system malfunction. It apparently was a false code or a temporary code because I did not do or replace anything to correct the problem and the "SES" light has never returned.

Easy to use reader.
I use it on my 1987 IROC Camaro which has two methods of diagnosing the Engine lights. One is a jumper cable, the other is using a tool such as this. All I have to do is pop it in, turn the key to ON, and read the codes. Very simple, very light, does not require a degree to use. The booklet that comes with it has a list of codes, their descriptions, and how to start collect the codes from the ECU. However, any GM car repair manual will/should have the same list. It is cheap, and it does what I need it to do.

This scanner is specifically designed to work with all OBD II compliant vehicles (all 1996 and newer cars & trucks that are OBD II compliant). There are a small number of 1994 and 1995 model year gasoline vehicles that are also compliant. To see if your car is OBD II compliant, check the Vehicle Emissions Control Information Label which is located under the hood or by the radiator of most vehicles. If the vehicle is compliant, the label will designate "OBD II Certified" and will have a 16-pin OBDII Standard Socket. This scanner is compatible all OBDII and EODBII compliant vehicles 1996 and newer. Please Note: may not be able to retrieve all codes on some VW, Audi, and Subaru cars. This scanner is not compatible with CAN protocol.

Simple, easy to use
I got this because the area I live in wants to inspect my car for emissions and I wanted to make sure I didn't have problems before I took the car to the inspection station. There's nothing worse than finding out you have a problem than when the inspector tells you.
I read the instructions (something that a lot of reviewers neglected to do). What I found out was that I had several errors, all minor, but decipherable from the instruction book. That's what you get for 30 bucks.
If you have half a brain, this thing is very usable.

Scanner won't work
UIFTECH U280 scanner connector does not fit my 1996 VW Cabrio OBDII connector. Pins line up but U280 housing is a little more than 1/16th of an inch short on both ends. Per the scanner description and the booklet, it should work with all 1990 and later VW/Audi vehicles with OBDII connector. It doesn't. Money wasted. I would give it a no star rating but that is not an option.

Good bang for the buck
The UIFTech U280 is a good all purpose tool that is a must for trouble shooting codes. The only shortfall that I have encountered is that the connector does not seat as well as it should. This means that you have to be very careful when inserting the male end of this devise into the female receptor end in my vehicle. It works well and has done the jobs that I have required of it.

Good but missing current protocol
I've had this unit for a few years and its worked with my 2003 Mazda MPV. We sold the MPV and bought a 2007 Toyota Sienna and this unit won't work with the Sienna.
Apparently there is a newer OBDII protocol called CAN (Controller Area Network) which my U380 does not support.
Otherwise, a good very basic unit. Nothing fancy and the interface is a bit clunky but it did the job and pulled the codes.
