Question : Someone help ID the code from an OBD-II Scanner?
We used an OBD-II scanner to identify the problem on our '98 Chevy Astro Van. The code it gave was P1351. The vehicle won't start/run. We have looked online for the code ID but all the codes we get are for a 3.1 engine. We need the code for a 4.3 ENGINE. Is there any way you can pin-point exactly what the problem is? or know where we can find the code's ID?

Question : Running codes even if check engine light is not on?
Can a code scanner find problems with a vehicle even if the check engine light is not on? I want my mechanic to check to see if my O2 sensors are good even though my check engine light is not on but the car is old it's an '89 camry V6 2.5L, just replaced the engine. Bought the car back in January. Not sure if the O2 Sensors were ever changed. Gas mileage sucks

Answer:
Depending on what kind of scan tool the mechanic is using (and his understanding of O2 sensors) they can watch the status of the sensor(s). Also, depending on how old the car is, it may only have one O2 sensor. Since the check engine light is not on there is not a problem with any of the sensors on the vehicle. The check engine light will come on only when there is an ACTIVE code. The ecm will store logged codes, so that will be one thing you may want to know. Why are wondering about them? Most manufactures recommend changing them at a certain mileage. If you are worried about them, then I would suggest you check to see how much they are and if the price is worth peace of mind. This is my wife's log in. I have been a mechanic for 15 years.

Question : When a 94 Acura Legend LS gets a tuneup what is done besides changing the spark plugs? Want to do my own. Thx
Where can I buy an OBD scanner/code reader for 94 Legend? I hear the OBD II scanners only work on 96 and newer vehicles. Lots of double talk from the local tuneup techs. Heck, I can change the plugs if that is all they do since they claim they can't read the codes with the OBD II scanner/reader. Can someone who has tuned up a 91-95 Legend give me the steps and I'll try it myself. I was quoted $28.95 per plug(x 6) and enough labor to make the final price be $230. I appreciate your help. Thank you.

Answer:
Ouch. Pricey. A tune up would consist of plugs, rotor, distributor cap and maybe the plug wires (if it is still the originals I would seriously consider it after 12 years) Also change the air cleaner and pcv filter (or unit). Plugs are cheaper than that. Go to an autoparts store for your stuff. It does not have to Acura factory parts. They overcharge (like every dealer). This will do you fine, for alot less. Do change the plugs when the engine is cold(like overnight cold).

Question : 04 explorer keeps shutting of wont start now?
used obd 2 scanner no error codes came up can start engine to check sensors. battery is fine engine does crank had to drive vehicle about ten miles home engine shutt off about 4 times on the way home got into the drive way poped the hood then shut off again got my reader out couldnt get it started again fuel filter changed out checked fuel pump out put looks like plenty of pressure dont have fuel pressure guage though. thinking possibly distrubtor. engine sounds like it want to fire but no go Got the solution. bolt came loose and cut wiring harness shorting out the system.

Answer:
Spray starting fluid in the air intake and if it starts, you've got a fuel delivery problem like fuel filter or fuel pump etc. Check for good spark with the spark tester below. http://www.valvoline.com/pages/products/product_detail.asp?product=41 http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=BK&PartNumber=7002456&Description=Electronic+Ignition+Spark+Tester

Question : We have a 99 Chrysler 300M that was towed in "no Start"?
Here's the story, a 300M was towed in to us with a no start condition. With a generic OBDII scanner no codes were returned, and the vehicle started upon the first try, we left it for several hours in the cold, again it started right up and was easily pulled into the service bay where I put our OTC Nemesis on it, thru the OEM link, i pulled a crank sensor code. which I then replaced.I then changed the oil and left for the evening. Upon returning to the shop in the morning, the 300M was not starting. So then, we replaced the cam sensor on a blind stab since the 300M would not kick out any other codes. Still, the vehicle will not start, I pulled the plugs to find them soaked with gas, cleaned and reinstalled, not start, warranteed them out for new, still no start, still flooding. today, on my day off, i went in and stuck a computer in this beast and still nothing, any help anyone?????

Answer:
Since you are getting fuel, have you checked for spark voltage? confirm mechanicals with a old a fashion vacuum gage. should get easily 18-20 inches of vacuum.

Question : chevy s10 service engine soon light came on then went off and now does not come on when key is turned on?
Anyway it has done this before and the chevy garage said it was a shorted ignition switch and chared me over a grand to replace it all now not ayear later it's doing it again so I brought it to an idependent dealer and hooked up the scanner well the scanner keeps saying must be hooked up to vehicle to read codes but it is hooked up any one know why this might be?

Answer:
i own a shop, and its not the computer that will cause this light to come on ,a faulty sensor will set this light, if it even runs bad ,on a damp day or anything,it doesn't take much to set it,i cant believe they charged that much to install a switch on it,id try looking around the computer for a loose harness,or one that isn't making good contact,if the light blows on some of these it will say that when you hook the scanner up to it.and it doesn't mean the computer is bad ,but the light affects the reading of the computer, since the light can be blown out,by the bulb being bad on it,this will make it say that, because it doesn't make a complete connection on it,you may have to pull the dash out of it,and replace the bulb before you can get it to scan it,i have seen a few of them like this before, all you can do is pull the dash and replace the bulb and then see,i don't think your going to have that much wrong with it,and if the switch shorts out ,the first thing it does is blow a fuse for it,and if its not blowing fuses i don't think you have a bad switch, they just don't go bad that often, check the bulb first, and then try scanning it again i think you,ll see a big difference in it,good luck,i hope this help,s.

Answer:
If I understand what you want properly, here is a program to complete what I think you want. Add more info if you need more help or if I misunderstood you. // START OF CODE import java.util.Scanner; public class carvan { public static void main(String [] args) { // resulting values double cost = 0.0; boolean Van = false; boolean Car = false; // input data double arrivalHours = 0.0; double arrivalMinutes = 0.0; double exitHours = 0.0; double exitMinutes = 0.0; String type; //type of vehicle Scanner keyboard=new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("What kind of car do you have? C for car || V for van "); type = keyboard.next(); if(type.charAt(0)=='C' || type.charAt(0)=='c') Car = true; else if(type.charAt(0)=='V' || type.charAt(0)=='v') Van = true; System.out.println("Enter arrival hour 0-23 "); arrivalHours=keyboard.nextInt(); System.out.println("Enter arrival minute 0-59 "); arrivalMinutes=keyboard.nextInt(); System.out.println("Enter exit hour "); exitHours=keyboard.nextDouble(); System.out.println("Enter exit minute "); exitMinutes=keyboard.nextDouble(); System.out.println("**************"); System.out.println("XXXXX"); System.out.println("**************"); double totalMins = ((exitHours*60.0)+exitMinutes) - ((arrivalHours*60.0)+arrivalMinutes); // find time stayed for if( Van ) // for a van { if( totalMins >= 60.0*8.57 ) // if it is more than or = to 8.57 hours, the cost will be $30 cost = 30.0; else // if parked for less than 8.57 hours cost = 3.50 * Math.ceil(totalMins/60.0); // 3.50 per hour (and round hours up, ex 3:20 = 4 hours) } else if( Car ) // for a car { if( totalMins >= 60.0*10.0 ) // if parked for more than or = to 10 hours, the cost will be $20 cost = 20.0; else // if parked for less than 10 hours cost = 2.0 * Math.ceil(totalMins/60.0); // 2.00 per hour } System.out.printf("Parking a " + (Van?"van":"car") + " for %02d:%02d will cost $%.2f.", (int)Math.floor(totalMins/60), ((int)totalMins)%60, cost); } } // END OF CODE Please ask here if you need more help! ;P
