Question : snap on code scanner?
i have a snap on code scanner and using generis obd-II function i got the code p1251 which is an undocumented code under generic use. can anyone tell me what this code means? the vehicle is a 99 saab 95 turbo 5 speed.

Question : Ford PAT System?
I have a 98 Ford Explorer and the Theft light has now started to blink quickly apon ignition. I only have one key to this vehicle and it will not start. It started fine always but drove to work and will not start no more. I was wondering if any Techs are out there that would know what would probably fail most: key failure or Transceiver failure? I get a 1260 Code on my Snap on 2500 scanner. If its the Transceiver do new ones need programing? I being led that they don't for the Key is the communication device and Transceiver just the antenna device. thanks,

Answer:
Pats system basics. The key is the transponder and the ring around the lock cylinder is the tranceiver. If you determine the tranceiver is bad(very unlikely) you do not have to program anything. If you determine the key is defective, then you will need to purchase two new keys and take it to a Ford dealership as you will not be able to reprogram them. Once you have two keys programmed you can add more of your own by cycling the two good ones then a new one(in your owners manual). But you will not be able to do anything until you get two keys programmed only by a Dealer. Possible reasons for this key not working anymore are it got dropped, was set on a code eraser on a checkout lane or another pats key for another vehicle on the same key chain or even transponders like Mobile Speed Pass can interfere. Question : Whats wrong with my Honda?
its a 99 Honda Accord LX with a 4 cylinder F23 Vtec engine and 121,000 miles in it. While moving it abruptly shuts off and sometimes back on. Thinking it was a fuel problem i changed the fuel cap and the fuel filter and pump. I contacted my local Honda dealer to find out if any recalls where done on my vehicle. All the recalls that existed have already been done according to the dealer (including the ignition switch). The scanner is not giving any codes. Any suggestions will help. Thanks!

it could be numerous of things...such as they stated the grounding wire...fuel relay...or just your ignition system (cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, or maybe the whole distrubitor....maybe even your fuel injectors being dirty...

 

Question : Can a bad relay cause an interuption in OBD 2 port signals?
First off sorry for all the questions on the same subject but I am persistant when I cant figure out a problem. I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9 and cannot scan it with either of my 2 scanners and dont know why. I have no blown fuses, I have confirmed power and ground to the port operational but yet it still says vehicle not responding, I have tested both scanners on 2 other vehicles of different years and makes with no issue in scanning. Also I am told over and over there should be no reason I cannot extract the data, there IS a code as the engine light is on and the truck has issues just out of nowhere. Even if there wasnt a code it would just say no codes in vehicle not vehicle not responding. Dodge Man if you read this maybe you could permit me to email you about this problem you obviously know what your talking about. I am a mechanic so I can do whatever is needed to find the issue I am just at a loss here Thank you so much. checked under the hood for a port cant find one also is there another fuse panel other than the one on the drivers side of the dashin between the door and side of dash? Ok thank you everybody I am starting to suspect the PCM, Unfortunately I believe my scanner (autoxray 6000 about $5-600) is not sophisticated enough to communicate with anything more than the PCM. As much as I hate it I think I might have to have the dealer scan it for me ( I am kinda ticked at them I have only had the truck 3 months and have put under 1000 miles on it and has only 67k, and they wont help me out one bit) So am I correct in assuming IF it is the PCM then that is why I cant get anything out of my scanner? The first thing to do is to see if you can communicate with the other modules (abs, srs, body, etc, whatever shares the bus). The various modules communicate an a bus (network). If one module has a problem in can stop communication on the bus. If others work then you know the failure is pcm related, in none communicate then you need to remove one module at a time and try to communicate again. Without a scan tool that can communicate with more than the pcm you have to monitor the bus for activity(square wave pattern on a graphing meter), if there is none unplug modules one at a time until there is. This stuff can be pretty tough the first time around, a factory manual should have some comm bus diagnostics in it. You can find some info in all data or mitchell too.

 

Question : What would cause an OBD II port to not have any power?
I am trying to use a code scanner on my companies 99 f250 (v10) and cannot get the scanner to power on. I was told that no power to the OBD II port might mean a blown ECM fuse or ignition fuse. The vehicle runs however and I cannot find any bad fuses. Am I just looking in the wrong place or is there maybe a bad connector on the port? Any ideas?

Answer:
You have to make sure the key is turned on to the run position.

Question : How do you manually pull codes from a 1989 jeep cherokee?
My 1989 cherokee has been NOTHING but problems and frankly I am sorry I bought the thing. Nothing works right on it, I get 5 mpg, I have already spent over $2,000 in repairs (stupid on my part) Recently all the fuel injectors were replaces and it is running even worse. It was suggested to me that I take it to any auto parts place and have them do a code scan on it. Unfortunately I went to everyone in town. Big name ones such as autozone,napa,shucks they all said there is no such code scanner for the vehicle and that I would have to pull the codes manually. Being not very happy I left with out finding out how to do that. Any ideas how? I hope it doesn't cost anything. I am not sure how much more I want to spend on this. I want to get rid of it but according to NADA with the condition it is in I am looking at $250.00 trade in. $250.00 is not worth my time. A 1989 Jeep Cherokee uses the renix system therefore no codes are stored or "thrown" You would have to hook it up to what is now basically an obsolete machine and get the codes in real time. Lots of things can cause the problems you describe and blaming the vehicle because you followed bad advice doesn't seem quite right either. Bad gas millage can be cause by improper air pressure in the tire, clogged catalytic converter, damaged/restricting exhaust, fuel injectors (assuming your Cherokee is actually fuel inject, some of them were carbonated) Carb problems, dirty air filter, bad O2 sensors, clogged fuel filter... the list goes on. for OBD-I-era computer for these codes, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to run (not start), then off, then run, then off, then run (that's 3 runs and 2 offs). Leave the key in the run position. The check engine light will turn on for a few seconds, then turn off, then (sometimes after 20 seconds) start flashing. The flashes are counting out 2-digit trouble codes. Fast flashes count up each digit, with a longer pause between digits. 11 No crank reference signal detected during engine cranking. Intermittent loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. CKP sensor target windows have too much variation. 12 Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 Key-on cycles. 13 No difference recognized between the engine MAP reading and the barometric (atmosphere) pressure reading from start-up. 14 MAP sensor input above or below acceptable voltage. 5 volt output to MAP sensor open. 15 No vehicle speed sensor signal detected during road load conditions. 17 Engine did not reach operating temperature within acceptable limits. Engine does not reach 20: F. within 5 minutes with a vehicle speed signal. 21 Upstream oxygen sensor response slower than minimum required switching frequency. Upstream oxygen sensor heating element circuit malfunction.Downstream oxygen sensor heating element circuit malfunction. Downstream oxygen sensor input voltage maintained above the normal operating range.Oxygen sensor voltage too low, tested after cold start. (Upstream or Downstream) Left oxygen sensor input voltage maintained above the normal operating temperature. 22 Engine coolant temperature sensor above or below acceptable voltage. 23 Intake air temperature sensor input above or below acceptable voltage. 24 Throttle position sensor input above or below acceptable voltage. TPS signal does not correlate to MAP sensor. 25 A shorted or open condition detected in one or more of the idle air control motor circuits. Actual idle speed does not equal target idle speed. 27 Injector #3, and/or 4, and/or 5, and/or 6 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal. 31 An open or shorted condition detected in the A/C clutch relay circuit. Insufficient or excessive vapor flow detected during evaporative emission system operation. 33 An open or shorted condition detected in the duty cycle purge solenoid circuit. 34 An open or shorted condition detected in the Speed Control vacuum or vent solenoid circuits. Speed control switch input below the minimum acceptable voltage. 37 Relationship between engine speed and vehicle speed indicates no torque converter clutch engagement. An open or shorted condition detected in the torque converter part throttle unlock solenoid control circuit. Incorrect input state detected for the Park/Neutral switch. Auto only. 41 An open or shorted condition in the generator field control circuit. 42 An open or shorted condition detected in the auto shutdown relay circuit. An open condition detected in the ASD relay output circuit. An open or shorted condition detected in the fuel pump relay control circuit. An open circuit between PCM and fuel gauge sending unit. Circuit shorted to voltage between PCM and fuel gauge sending unit. No movement of fuel level sender detected. 43 Peak primary circuit current not achieved with maximum dwell time. Misfire detected in one or more cylinders 1 thru 6. (4 and 6 cyls.) 44 Battery temperature sensor in voltage above or below acceptable range. 46 Battery voltage sense input above target charging voltage during engine operation. 47 Battery voltage sense input below target charging during engine operation. Also, no significant change detected in battery voltage during active test of generator output circuit. 51 A lean air/fuel mixture has been indicated by an abnormally rich correction factor. 52 A rich air/fuel mixture has been indicated by an abnormally rich correction factor. 53 PCM Internal fault condition detected. 54 No camshaft signal detected during engine cranking. 55 Completion of fault code display on Check Engine lamp. Unsuccessful attempt to write to an EEPROM location by the PCM. 64 Catalyst efficiency below required level. (Same as code 72) 65 Power steering high pressure seen at high speed. Question : How to Connect diagnostic scanner for engine codes?
I'm thinking of buying this scanner.. Actron CP9135 AutoScanner Diagnostic Code Scanner with On Screen Definitions for OBDII (Post-1996) Vehicles but don't know how to connect it to my cars, 1998 Ford Ranger, XLT six cylinder, 3.0 liter......and 2006 Toyota Matrix, XR. Do you know where the connections are on the cars, so I can look and decide? Thank you.

Question : My vehicle is vibrating and exhaust is puttering out while in park????
I hooked my scanner up and got a trouble code of P0400 ??? what could be the problem. This happened yesterday after we go off the freeway. My vehicle is 95 Mercury Grand Marquis V8.

EGR flow fault. Bad egr, bad vac line, clogged up intake, some possibilities. will give you the drivability problem you just described, as well.

 

Question : When a 94 Acura Legend LS gets a tuneup what is done besides changing the spark plugs? Want to do my own. Thx
Where can I buy an OBD scanner/code reader for 94 Legend? I hear the OBD II scanners only work on 96 and newer vehicles. Lots of double talk from the local tuneup techs. Heck, I can change the plugs if that is all they do since they claim they can't read the codes with the OBD II scanner/reader. Can someone who has tuned up a 91-95 Legend give me the steps and I'll try it myself. I was quoted $28.95 per plug(x 6) and enough labor to make the final price be $230. I appreciate your help. Ouch. Pricey. A tune up would consist of plugs, rotor, distributor cap and maybe the plug wires (if it is still the originals I would seriously consider it after 12 years) Also change the air cleaner and pcv filter (or unit). Plugs are cheaper than that. Go to an autoparts store for your stuff. It does not have to Acura factory parts. They overcharge (like every dealer). This will do you fine, for alot less. Do change the plugs when the engine is cold(like overnight cold).
