Questions & Answers
Question : I have a 2000 Honda Civic ans for some reason the yellow engine light came on. What does that mean?
It is an old style engine light and it is not digital. It is just a little scrolling wheel that is either green yellow or red. I have no idea what yellow means and a code reader says nothing. The car does seem to rumble a little more at idle. Please help!
Answer:
If you've changed your engine oil recently it may be that you or the mechanic you assigned did not reset the sensor right under your dash for you. Try this: Look for the switch it's normally to the right side of the steering column under the dash (it's close to the edge) press and hold the button while you start the engine. Keep the button pressed until that light shuts off.
If that doesn't work have your Honda's manual handy and check to see about your lights and their meanings.

Question : OBD-II code scanner Vs engine analyzer?
I am reading that, an engine analyzer can identify whether engine is misfiring or skipping firing at low rpm. While, i know about the OBD-II code readers which are used to read the engine check codes. Wondering will the OBD-II code reader is same as engine analyzer? Will Auto zone help me find it about engine firing?

Question : Where can I find an affordable ($30 to $50) digital display OBD1 code reader for a 1990 Chrylser New Yorker?
I'am tired of attempting to count the check engine flashes, they are not always accurate as its difficult to distinguish the pauses. I want a digital display that reads it out but don't want to spend a fortune with a universal reader. They used to make them years ago just for Chrysler cars, now I cant find them anywhere
Answer:
i own a shop, and i know what you mean bout counting flashes, advance auto parts has a simple reader for around 30 bucks that works pretty well, they usually make it a lot easier to read, counting the flashes isn't any fun,but give advance a call, they have what your looking for, good luck with it hope this helps.

Question : check engine light went on but off now - will code reader pick up the error now?
my check engine light went on Friday last week, then it went off Tuesday afternoon - tomorrow is Saturday
when I take it to the dealer/mechanic, will they be able to figure out the error code, or will the error code be gone because the light is off?
trying to determine if I need to bring it in tomorrow, or if it is a waste of time
if it is a gas cap issue what is the error code
if it is an oxygen sensor issue what is the code
also what damage can happen if i dont get it fixed (worse case scenario)
I had a check engine light on last year and a half ago and they told me it was the gas cap - then it went off again within a month and they said it was some seal that was not working right that was leaking gas fumes. They were mistaken about the reason the first time - so why didn't the error code say exactly what the issue was in that instance - is the code too general, all encompassing so that they cannot tell the difference between a gas cap issue and a vapor leak?
Answer:
If it tripped a code the computer will save that code and the dealership should be able to retrieve it to see what it was. Could be something as simple as the gas cap was not tightened properly. If the light is now off, the issue is resolved for the time being.

Question : Meaning for this "service engine soon" code for 1997 Blazer?
My fiance and I took his Blazer (1997, auto trans, V6) to Autozone and used their code reader because his service engine soon light has been on for a couple days. The code reader said "P1870" and below that it said "Manufacturer Control Transmission." Does anyone know what this means, or where we can look it up?
Answer:
Depending on which transmission you have, you could have a faulty TFP (Transmission Fluid Pressure) valve position sensor that is bad but before you do that you need to check the condition of the fluid, ie: burnt or smells bad.

Question : P1404 Engine Code...?
Ok, I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe LT and just got a tune-up done on it.....Now I have been driving it for about 3 weeks now after the tune-up and all of a sudden the service engine soon light comes on!!!
Now I start to freak out because I am thinking "I just got it serviced"....
Then I say to myself, maybe it is a mistake...
The next morning, it is off and I am relaxed....then later in the day it comes on again!!!!!
Then today it came on while I was driving, so I stopped at a local Autozone and rented an OBD II code reader, and it diagnosed a P1404, which to my understanding, has to do with the emission system?
Now, I have been reading forums and have read that it might just require a thorough cleaning of the EGR and sort...or it might need replacement, which isn't relatively expensive....
What exactly should I ask for to be done on my truck when I take it in to a local repair shop?
I am mostly asking what to say and ask of the mechanic at a local repair shop.....?
Average cost???
Answer:
egr solenoid control faulty = P1404. Auto Zone reads codes FREE how come you had to pay ?? If you go to shop they will read code and you won't have to tell them a thing.

Question : nissan frontier 2002 error code p0505 wont start.?
Truck wouldnt start.Check engine light on.Code reader Flashes yellow light saying other codes cant be read until truck runs but I cant start truck with check engine light on.
Answer:
p0505 is the IACV/AAC Valve (Idle control valve) You'll probably just have to get it replaced. The part costs about 179 dollars plus maintenance.
For the parts price I estimated your frontier was a 2wd v6, although it shouldn't make too much of a difference if it is awd. You can find the part at the second link.

Question : I have a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse and need to check OBDI codes without a code reader, how do I go about this?
The diagnostic terminal is a 12 pin with a ground and the others for......who knows. I have heard that I can ground the one terminal and touch the other terminals to start to get my "check engine light" to begin reading codes. I understand there is a way to do this without a code reader using some wire but my previous question receiving no valid responses, please help. Also, please don't tell me to go to Autozone to check codes, they only check 1994 and newer vehicles...aka...OBDII.

Question : 96 Crown Vic sat for long time warms up and dies runs rough idle and crank sensor replaced, will stay running?
So my question is, code reader says one bank rich one lean so we are thinking heated o2 sensor bad, how do I tell which one? Runs great going 80, runs rough most of the other time. 4.6l pi engine w engine code. Changing fuel filter and plugs tonight. One other thing will stay running when you first start it after sitting for awhile (hours) but when it warms up dies. Any help would be appreciated.
Answer:
"What is 'Heated o2 Sensor'?" Have "Back Pressures" Checked at Muffler and Catalytic Converter! That could cause an o2 and Fuel Imbalance Problems.
NOTE; Unless it's really cold out (27 Degrees or Less) "Warm-Up" of more then 1 minute is not really needed!

Question : How do I pull the engine codes from my Volvo 850 R?
I have a 1997 Volvo 850 R sedan, and I am trying to figure out how to pull the engine codes for diagnostics of the vehicle. I know that it is OBDII compliant, so all I have to do is take it to a dealer or an autoparts store, but I would like to know myself where the plug is located for the OBDII reader. How do you pull the codes? Does all it take to pull the codes is a OBDII reader?
Answer:
Lift up the arm rest on the center console. Then remove the plastic plug that sits in front of the gear shift knob. The connector is under that plug.
