Ford Air Bag Simulator

Features and Benefits:

  • Ford vehicles have had air bag systems available on select vehicles since 1985. In 1989, air bags became standard on certain Fords. It was in 1992 that air bags with two all new diagnostic monitoring systems and backup power were introduced. Servicing the self-diagnostic air bag systems is required in different circumstances. In the self-diagnostic system, an "AIR BAG" readiness lamp will flash a trouble code if the system is faulty, whenever the air bag is deployed, whenever a car is being scrapped, or when other repairs are needed on the steering column and the air bag module must be removed.
  • As a matter of fact, diagnosis of air bag system faults is impossible without these tools because the circuit remains open.
  • These tools are essential for body shops. Some diagnostic procedures require the use of one of these special air bag simulators. In effect, they simulate a complete circuit for diagnostic purposes.
  • Each is used in the same way.
  • With the power disconnected and drained from the air bag backup system, the module is removed and disconnected. The air bag simulator gets plugged into the vehicle harness connector and power is restored.
  • Ford air bag simulator. Special one ohm resistor for use on air bags on Probe vehicles.
  • Wt., 6 oz.

Questions & Answers
Question : Service engine soon light?
My service engine soon light came on my 1997 nissan 200sx and I had the vehicle scanned at Autozone in which the code for throttle position sensor came up on the scanner. I bought the part and attempted to change it. I had a difficult time changing it myself and decided to have a mechanic change it the next day. The next morning when I started the car to go to work the light wasn't on anymore. So now I have been driving the car for a couple of days and the light still hasn't came on. Does this mean that the fault code fixed itself or should I drive the car a few more days to see if the fault reappears before getting my money back for the part that I purchased.

Question : Can a bad relay cause an interuption in OBD 2 port signals?
First off sorry for all the questions on the same subject but I am persistant when I cant figure out a problem. I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9 and cannot scan it with either of my 2 scanners and dont know why. I have no blown fuses, I have confirmed power and ground to the port operational but yet it still says vehicle not responding, I have tested both scanners on 2 other vehicles of different years and makes with no issue in scanning. Also I am told over and over there should be no reason I cannot extract the data, there IS a code as the engine light is on and the truck has issues just out of nowhere. Even if there wasnt a code it would just say no codes in vehicle not vehicle not responding. Dodge Man if you read this maybe you could permit me to email you about this problem you obviously know what your talking about. I am a mechanic so I can do whatever is needed to find the issue I am just at a loss here Thank you so much. checked under the hood for a port cant find one also is there another fuse panel other than the one on the drivers side of the dashin between the door and side of dash? Ok thank you everybody I am starting to suspect the PCM, Unfortunately I believe my scanner (autoxray 6000 about $5-600) is not sophisticated enough to communicate with anything more than the PCM. As much as I hate it I think I might have to have the dealer scan it for me ( I am kinda ticked at them I have only had the truck 3 months and have put under 1000 miles on it and has only 67k, and they wont help me out one bit) So am I correct in assuming IF it is the PCM then that is why I cant get anything out of my scanner? Thank you again.

Answer:
The first thing to do is to see if you can communicate with the other modules (abs, srs, body, etc, whatever shares the bus). The various modules communicate an a bus (network). If one module has a problem in can stop communication on the bus. If others work then you know the failure is pcm related, in none communicate then you need to remove one module at a time and try to communicate again. Without a scan tool that can communicate with more than the pcm you have to monitor the bus for activity(square wave pattern on a graphing meter), if there is none unplug modules one at a time until there is. This stuff can be pretty tough the first time around, a factory manual should have some comm bus diagnostics in it. You can find some info in all data or mitchell too.

Question : 2000 acura integra gs-r OBD II diagnostic code help (P1456)?
hey, i used an obd II scanner on my vehicle and it says that there is a problem with the evaporative emission control system leak in fuel system. anyone have any ideas on where i should start looking for this problem. or perhaps what the problem might be? thank you very much. ~ryan

Answer:
Quite frequently a loose gas cap. tighten the cap and clear the code by using the scanner.to turn off the lite. The trouble lite won't go ouy by just fixing the problem. If the problem still exists the lite will be back after a while.

Question : Automotive Scan Tool questions?
I have an 03 monte carlo. I am looking to buy a scan tool of some kind that can be used for all makes of vehicles. Any idea of a good one to get or look at. I am not looking to spend a ton here. Just looking for a reliable scanner that can point me in the right direction. And also not sure but do i have to buy a manual to read the error codes or does a scanner come with one? any info would be appreciated.

Answer:
For home use you can get the cheap stuff. The more expensive stuff will not only give you the number code, but the text. In my experience, you have too look up the code in the internet and see what other people are saying (not just what the text says). Also the more expensive models will give you live data (like instantaneous O2 voltage levels, MAF data reading, RPM, etc.) I think those might be very useful. Some will even give you the MPG - but in my experience it is not completely accurated. Good Luck... P.S. Sears and Autozone sells them pretty cheap.

Question : 2000 chevy blazer SERVICE ENGINE SOON!!! Please help?
ok so i started my 2000 blazer this morning to find service engine soon soo i pull out the ole' handy OBD II scanner and the code is P0143 O2 sensor low input... i say ok not too bad could be worse... soo i clean the connector to the particular O2 sensor because it had some corrosion and mud in it ewww. anyway soo i cleared the code and then i went out about 2 hours later and started it again and the light was back on (after driving it about 12 miles with no light) soo i checked again and this time it was P0103 MAF soo i cleared the code and drove again and neither came back PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO? i already have WAY to much to fix on this vehicle and i cannot affort to get another car sooo i am kinda f-ucked.... are the sensors going bad could it have just been a glitch in the MAF for the P0103 i'm LOST!

Answer:
You're guessing. Unfortunately, there's no easy answer to your question. For example, your p0143 code shows a value out of range for one of the oxygen sensors. This could mean that the sensor is bad - but not necessarily. There could be an upstream condition from that sensor that is causing a lean or rich exhaust reading, which is out of the sensors range. The only way to determine whether or not the sensor is doing it's job is to test the wave form of the sensor itself (oscilliscope, scanner, etc). By comparing its readings to its acceptable values you can determine whether the sensor is doing its job or not. Basically, if this is beyond your ability, you'll need to take it to a tech you trust and have it properly addressed. Best of luck!

Question : What is the legal responsibility of a automotive shop in the following cases?
Read plz The tech checked system with scanner and found hte knock sensor failure. Found no other problem. Recommed replace knock sensor. Replaced knock sensor, retested system found no further problems. Tech Rotates tires, changed oil and inspected brake hoses and lines. No problems found. The service light returned two days later. The customer returned on the third day. The tech servicing the vehicle stated the code was different and would not be covered by warranty. The customer Ok'ed the second repair for the check engine light. Driving home, the customer noticed the light returned. The customer complained the light is on for a third time, and requested the problem should be taken care of by the shop. The technician checked the vehicle an and stated the ingine code is different from te previous two and the customer had to pay for the repair. Q 1.Legal responsi of the shop/customer? 2. What mistakes made on repair order? 3.Who dropped the ball. 4.How prevent legal action

Answer:
If the engine code was different each time, the customer should pay for the repairs. Sorry. 3 engine lights with differing codes in a short period of time might just be a case of bad luck and timing.

Question : Will a REAL mechanic help me out with some automotive computer troubleshooting??
Vehicle-- 1987 GMC v1500 4x4 350 tbi auto Check engine light comes on but the truck will not give me any trouble codes only the number "12" trouble code which is "system pass". Is this truck not storing the codes anymore?Anyone else have this problem in where the check engine light comes on but the computer is not displaying any signs of trouble?Whats up??Thanks. I am only using the simple jumper key(not a code scanner) to access the codes from the computer and just counting the amount of times the check engine light flashes. The truck runs good but i am very maticulous on my vehicles being in tip top shape hence the question of the check light. There are some pretty helpful answers here.Sounds like i actually got some real mechanics to answer this time.I was finally able to retrieve the code #43.I replaced the esc module and now its fine. Thanks to eveyone and i will let this go up for a vote since everybody tried to help with some great answers.

Answer:
Ok, if the light comes on, the ecm is signalling that there is a malfunction. Are you checking for codes with the engine running or do you shut it off and then turn the key back on? the reason I ask is because there are two types of codes, current and history. If a situation arises that causes the ecm to believe there is a malfuntion and is requesting the mil be illuminated, it should store a code in the ecm memory. But it could be a "soft" failure in that as soon as the key is cycled, the code is not stored any longer. Next time the light comes on, try stalling the engine by removing the power from the coil,or removing the coil wire if you feel brave, without turning the key off and check for a code. It seems like I have run into this some time before. Have you tried stopping by Autozone or the like to see if they can pull a code with their code reader? They don't have a diagnostic tool like a Tech 1 or tech 2 so they can't read the scan data just read the codes. They are basically doing the same thing like you are but their tool translates the code from the number to what system the code is referring to. If there is never a code stored, it sounds like it could be a faulty ecm. I'll ask a couple of guys I work with at Delphi Powertrain Systems. They've done a bunch of TBI swaps on off road vehicles and know the system inside and out.

Question : Whats wrong with my Honda?
its a 99 Honda Accord LX with a 4 cylinder F23 Vtec engine and 121,000 miles in it. While moving it abruptly shuts off and sometimes back on. Thinking it was a fuel problem i changed the fuel cap and the fuel filter and pump. I contacted my local Honda dealer to find out if any recalls where done on my vehicle. All the recalls that existed have already been done according to the dealer (including the ignition switch). The scanner is not giving any codes. Any suggestions will help. Thanks!

Answer:
it could be numerous of things...such as they stated the grounding wire...fuel relay...or just your ignition system (cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, or maybe the whole distrubitor....maybe even your fuel injectors being dirty...
