Good way to set performance baseline for your cazr
This product allows you to capture data from the ODBC II port on most newer vehicles. I found it easy to use and I'm the kind of person who will log data from all my cars and keep it for future reference. When the car isn't running right, I'll use the old data for diagnosis. My only complaint is that the CarChip only logs 4 signals in addition to vehicle speed and only a small set of the available signals. I'd rather it log more signals at once. For that, I'd be happy to trade off how long it can log data for more signals. For example, with a Chevy V8 engine, you cannot log the fuel trim for both cylinder banks and all 4 O2 sensor signals at the same time.

Question : What is the legal responsibility of a automotive shop in the following cases?
Read plz
The tech checked system with scanner and found hte knock sensor failure. Found no other problem. Recommed replace knock sensor.
Replaced knock sensor, retested system found no further
problems. Tech Rotates tires, changed oil and inspected brake hoses and lines. No problems found.
The service light returned two days later. The customer returned on the third day. The tech servicing the vehicle stated the code was different and would not be covered by warranty. The customer Ok'ed the second repair for the check engine light. Driving home, the customer noticed the light returned. The customer complained the light is on for a third time, and requested the problem should be taken care of by the shop. The technician checked the vehicle an and stated the ingine code is different from te previous two and the customer had to pay for the repair.
Q
1.Legal responsi of the shop/customer?
2. What mistakes made on repair order?
3.Who dropped the ball.
4.How prevent legal action
Answer:
If the engine code was different each time, the customer should pay for the repairs. Sorry. 3 engine lights with differing codes in a short period of time might just be a case of bad luck and timing.

Question : 2000 chevy blazer SERVICE ENGINE SOON!!! Please help?
ok so i started my 2000 blazer this morning to find service engine soon soo i pull out the ole' handy OBD II scanner and the code is P0143 O2 sensor low input... i say ok not too bad could be worse... soo i clean the connector to the particular O2 sensor because it had some corrosion and mud in it ewww. anyway soo i cleared the code and then i went out about 2 hours later and started it again and the light was back on (after driving it about 12 miles with no light) soo i checked again and this time it was P0103 MAF soo i cleared the code and drove again and neither came back PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO? i already have WAY to much to fix on this vehicle and i cannot affort to get another car sooo i am kinda f-ucked.... are the sensors going bad could it have just been a glitch in the MAF for the P0103 i'm LOST!
Answer:
You're guessing. Unfortunately, there's no easy answer to your question. For example, your p0143 code shows a value out of range for one of the oxygen sensors. This could mean that the sensor is bad - but not necessarily. There could be an upstream condition from that sensor that is causing a lean or rich exhaust reading, which is out of the sensors range. The only way to determine whether or not the sensor is doing it's job is to test the wave form of the sensor itself (oscilliscope, scanner, etc). By comparing its readings to its acceptable values you can determine whether the sensor is doing its job or not. Basically, if this is beyond your ability, you'll need to take it to a tech you trust and have it properly addressed. Best of luck!

Question : When a 94 Acura Legend LS gets a tuneup what is done besides changing the spark plugs? Want to do my own. Thx
Where can I buy an OBD scanner/code reader for 94 Legend? I
hear the OBD II scanners only work on 96 and newer vehicles.
Lots of double talk from the local tuneup techs. Heck, I can change
the plugs if that is all they do since they claim they can't read the
codes with the OBD II scanner/reader. Can someone who has tuned up a 91-95 Legend give me the steps and I'll try it myself.
I was quoted $28.95 per plug(x 6) and enough labor to make the
final price be $230. I appreciate your help. Thank you.
Answer:
Ouch. Pricey. A tune up would consist of plugs, rotor, distributor cap and maybe the plug wires (if it is still the originals I would seriously consider it after 12 years) Also change the air cleaner and pcv filter (or unit). Plugs are cheaper than that. Go to an autoparts store for your stuff. It does not have to Acura factory parts. They overcharge (like every dealer).
This will do you fine, for alot less.
Do change the plugs when the engine is cold(like overnight cold).

Question : We have a 99 Chrysler 300M that was towed in "no Start"?
Here's the story, a 300M was towed in to us with a no start condition. With a generic OBDII scanner no codes were returned, and the vehicle started upon the first try, we left it for several hours in the cold, again it started right up and was easily pulled into the service bay where I put our OTC Nemesis on it, thru the OEM link, i pulled a crank sensor code. which I then replaced.I then changed the oil and left for the evening. Upon returning to the shop in the morning, the 300M was not starting. So then, we replaced the cam sensor on a blind stab since the 300M would not kick out any other codes. Still, the
vehicle will not start, I pulled the plugs to find them soaked with
gas, cleaned and reinstalled, not start, warranteed them out for new, still no start, still flooding. today, on my day off, i went in and stuck a computer in this beast and still nothing, any help anyone?????
Answer:
Since you are getting fuel, have you checked for spark voltage? confirm mechanicals with a old a fashion vacuum gage. should get easily 18-20 inches of vacuum.

Question : ASE mechanics...... Will my car PASS inspection if my check engine light is off?
My vehicle is a 1996 Honda Accord V6 2.7L and I live in New Jersey. My check engine light was on so I bought an OBD II code scanner and found out that I had one DTC which was code P0401, "EGR flow insufficient". The scanner also has an "I/M or Inspection and Maintenance Monitors" function which supposedly scans for (11) EPA emission related systems with out of range values, for example: O2 Sensors, Catalytic Converter etc. All of those show a "READY" status which according to the manual means that the required driving condtions for each monitor have been met and it has passed. I cleared the MIL "check engine light" code but it came back on a day & a half later. My current inspection is overdue as of tomorrow 11/1/08. I'm scheduled for a complete tune-up in 3 weeks but in the meantime my question is, Will my car pass inspection if I clear the "check engine light code" again right before I go to the DMV since those other I/M Monitors say "passed" and the check engine light takes a day or so to go back on? Does the I/M monitors showing a "ready" status mean that my emissions are good? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Answer:
No.
If you check engine light is on, you fail.
And if they run the diagnostic, and find that it was recently on, still failed.

Question : Diagnostics?
Why do people think a diagnostic of a vehicle with a running problem is nothing more than "pulling with a scanner" a "code"? Doing diagnostics for over 20 yrs now, just because a code is in the computer doesn't mean that part is bad. So why then does Autozone sell you a part just because it has for example a code for an O2 sensor? Does that mean than you are going to buy a transmission because it sets a trans code? Trained techs do more than pull a code, charge you 80 bucks and put a part in, because most are not the fault of a sensor. If you get your "free" scan from autozone and it doesn't fix your complaint, does autozone stand behind you and let you return a electrical part?
Answer:
yes , good points both of you , also what a lot of people ( techs and tourists ) forget is that under all the wiring and sensors is an internal combustion engine , how many sensors and computers have been replaced when bent push rods or collapsed compression rings are the true culprit ? i took automotives in school ( while the earth was still cooling ) and saw that the industry was going to be in turmoil for many years until the electronic stuff was sorted out so i kept auto repair as a hobby , my hat is off to you guys that need a degree in computer science as well as knowing how to best beat apart a reluctant ball joint.

Question : Service engine soon light?
My service engine soon light came on my 1997 nissan 200sx and I had the vehicle scanned at Autozone in which the code for throttle position sensor came up on the scanner. I bought the part and attempted to change it. I had a difficult time changing it myself and decided to have a mechanic change it the next day. The next morning when I started the car to go to work the light wasn't on anymore. So now I have been driving the car for a couple of days and the light still hasn't came on. Does this mean that the fault code fixed itself or should I drive the car a few more days to see if the fault reappears before getting my money back for the part that I purchased.
