Decent, does the job
The price is right, but the meter isn't anything special. I bought it to put in my camper to check the occasional bad fuse, open circuit, test polarity, etc. and it does the job. It requires a 9v battery (not included) which means that the cost of batteries will be more than the cost of the meter before too long. Also, you have to have a small phillips screw driver to replace the battery. The manual is the barest possible and some functions (at least as it appears) aren't even explained. But, for the standard stuff that I bought it for, it works well. It is compact, but not as small as some others. Overall, it is sufficient.

Misleading offer
I was enticed to look/buy the Actron CP7672 Multimeter as it was presented as a $30 item, on sale for $15. I found it to be of the same characteristics as multimeters found everywhere in the $15 to $20 range. It wasn't what I was expecting it to be - a better quality multimeter.
Rating :
Good product and price
This multitester is a great product. It's simple to use, especially for testing circuits, batteries, even continuity. Despite some other negatives from other reviewers, get this product. The price and quality are good. One small complaint: The instruction booklet could be a little clearer on what each setting does.

Everyone with a 1996 or newer car needs this tool! Turn off that Check Engine Light, read trouble codes, and monitor performance IT WILL SAVE YOU MONEY!!
Our OBD2 AllInOne scan tool will work on 1996 or newer OBD 2 / EODB / JODB compliant cars and trucks, and is based on the ELM327 chip which autodetects all OBDII protocols: CAN, ISO, VPW, PWM, and KWP2000. It will work on your GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes, BMW - any car, any manufacturer after 1996, including the new CAN vehicles
There are 5 diagnostic LEDs on the OBD2 All-In-One scan tool that let you see at a glance what is going on with the communications:
A Power LED
OBD Transmit Data (Tx)
OBD Receive Data (Rx)
RS-232 Transmit Data (Tx)
RS-232 Receive Data (Rx)
The entire OBD2 All-In-One unit is small (1 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 3/4") and sturdy. It can easily be tossed in your toolbox with your other diagnostic tools. It is made in the USA.
This package includes the scan tool, all cables and software.
Customer Review :
Money well spent
I bought this item about a year ago and have used it numerous times with no issues whatsoever. Yes, I agree with the other review that better software could come with it, but I'd also like to point out that there are about 20 different freeware projects that are compatible with this hardware. So, just go searching, download a few, and see what works best for what you're trying to do. I ended up buying a serial-to-USB adapter (just a cheapie at that) later on to use this device with my new laptop and it still works great. If you have a laptop or even a desktop handy for the garage, don't bother with the scantools that cost you $1,000's, this one will do almost all the same tricks for way less money.

Software needs upgraded
The hardware or vehicle connector is excellent, haven't found an OBD2 vehicle it won't work on. The software on the other hand desperatly needs attention. The software that comes with the tool is all freeware and every single application is VERY limited. Even if they had to add 20 or maybe even 30 dollars to the price, still would be well worth the money, they should include some quality diagnostic software. There are several available.

Question : 1988 Ranger problems part 2?
well i am back .. and i changed the MAP sensor and i checked out the ignition module... did a fuel filter change and a Fuel Pressure Regulator change .... its the famous 2.9 V6 and for those of you who know there is no EGR on this motor . .. i am still having problems with the truck dogging down while driving almost as if ... the fuel filter was clogging or something but yet ... the truck will idle all day long and no problem and rarely stalls .... and the check engine light doesnt come on ... and i bought one of these . Actron code scanners for Ford and the only thing i get is ... the Oxygen Sensor is running lean and does not switch .. and i have done replaced the Oxygen sensor in a vehicle before with .... with the same problem it was running rich or lean and changed it and it told me the same afterward .. so i cant think it is that sensor either ...... ... doesnt seem to be any Vacuum leakes .. and when it dogs out seems to put out a bit of smoke black smoke ... any ideas anyone?
Answer:
Check the forums here if nothing else comes up---http://www.therangerstation.com/
Black smoke would indicate running too rich--could be semi- plugged cat converter? If O2 is new and still get a code, maybe the wiring or connector is corroded---will give a false signal to the computer. You'd need a service manual with specs for O2 output signal to check. Could be a fuel leak in the carb/injector...maybe run some FI cleaner through the system a few times.

Question : Automotive Scan Tool questions?
I have an 03 monte carlo. I am looking to buy a scan tool of some kind that can be used for all makes of vehicles. Any idea of a good one to get or look at. I am not looking to spend a ton here. Just looking for a reliable scanner that can point me in the right direction. And also not sure but do i have to buy a manual to read the error codes or does a scanner come with one? any info would be appreciated.
Answer:
For home use you can get the cheap stuff. The more expensive stuff will not only give you the number code, but the text.
In my experience, you have too look up the code in the internet and see what other people are saying (not just what the text says).
Also the more expensive models will give you live data (like instantaneous O2 voltage levels, MAF data reading, RPM, etc.) I think those might be very useful.
Some will even give you the MPG - but in my experience it is not completely accurated.
Good Luck...
P.S. Sears and Autozone sells them pretty cheap.

Question : 04 explorer keeps shutting of wont start now?
used obd 2 scanner no error codes came up can start engine to check sensors. battery is fine engine does crank
had to drive vehicle about ten miles home engine shutt off about 4 times on the way home got into the drive way poped the hood then shut off again got my reader out couldnt get it started again
fuel filter changed out checked fuel pump out put looks like plenty of pressure dont have fuel pressure guage though. thinking possibly distrubtor. engine sounds like it want to fire but no go
Got the solution. bolt came loose and cut wiring harness shorting out the system.
Answer:
Spray starting fluid in the air intake and if it starts, you've got a fuel delivery problem like fuel filter or fuel pump etc. Check for good spark with the spark tester below.

Question : We have a 99 Chrysler that was Towed "No Start"?
Here's the story, a 300M was towed in to us with a no start
condition. With a generic OBDII scanner no codes were returned, and the vehicle started upon the first try, we left it for several hours in the cold, again it started right up and was easily pulled into the service bay where I put our OTC Nemesis on it, thru the OEM link, i pulled a crank sensor code. which I then replaced.I then changed the oil and left for the evening. Upon returning to the shop in the morning, the 300M was not starting. So then, we replaced the cam sensor on a blind stab since the 300M would not kick out any other codes. Still, the vehicle will not start, I pulled the plugs to find them soaked with gas, cleaned and reinstalled, not start, warranteed them out for new, still no start, still flooding. After pulling a coil and grounding it and the spark, spark is clean and white, so i stuck a computer in it on my day off, problem still exists.
Answer:
Hook up a timing light and check for proper ignition timing.
If thats OK, Hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank it over for 10-15 seconds to clear out all the residual gas in the intake.
If the plugs are wet, there is WAY too much gas, or not enough air going to the engine.

Question : Ford PAT System?
I have a 98 Ford Explorer and the Theft light has now started to blink quickly apon ignition. I only have one key to this vehicle and it will not start. It started fine always but drove to work and will not start no more.
I was wondering if any Techs are out there that would know what would probably fail most: key failure or Transceiver failure? I get a 1260 Code on my Snap on 2500 scanner.
If its the Transceiver do new ones need programing? I being led that they don't for the Key is the communication device and Transceiver just the antenna device.
thanks,
Answer:
Pats system basics. The key is the transponder and the ring around the lock cylinder is the tranceiver. If you determine the tranceiver is bad(very unlikely) you do not have to program anything. If you determine the key is defective, then you will need to purchase two new keys and take it to a Ford dealership as you will not be able to reprogram them. Once you have two keys programmed you can add more of your own by cycling the two good ones then a new one(in your owners manual). But you will not be able to do anything until you get two keys programmed only by a Dealer. Possible reasons for this key not working anymore are it got dropped, was set on a code eraser on a checkout lane or another pats key for another vehicle on the same key chain or even transponders like Mobile Speed Pass can interfere. Good Luck!

Answer:
Since you are getting fuel, have you checked for spark voltage? confirm mechanicals with a old a fashion vacuum gage. should get easily 18-20 inches of vacuum.

Question : Running codes even if check engine light is not on?
Can a code scanner find problems with a vehicle even if the check engine light is not on? I want my mechanic to check to see if my O2 sensors are good even though my check engine light is not on but the car is old
it's an '89 camry V6 2.5L, just replaced the engine. Bought the car back in January. Not sure if the O2 Sensors were ever changed. Gas mileage sucks
Answer:
Depending on what kind of scan tool the mechanic is using (and his understanding of O2 sensors) they can watch the status of the sensor(s). Also, depending on how old the car is, it may only have one O2 sensor. Since the check engine light is not on there is not a problem with any of the sensors on the vehicle. The check engine light will come on only when there is an ACTIVE code. The ecm will store logged codes, so that will be one thing you may want to know. Why are wondering about them? Most manufactures recommend changing them at a certain mileage. If you are worried about them, then I would suggest you check to see how much they are and if the price is worth peace of mind.
This is my wife's log in. I have been a mechanic for 15 years.
