Recently got a check engine light on our 01 Explorer Sport. Followed the straightforward instructions, and got the codes no problem. Used the update button, and both the software and the firmware on the unit were upgraded from the internet, no problems. This unit does exactly what it says it will, and does it well.

Worth every penny

It does an awesome job integrating with my laptop. The interface is pretty good and the drawback comes from the fact that you have to try different software applications until you find one that works on USB. Once you get the right software (freeware) and place the laptop where you get minimal glare or inside the garage it works pretty good diagnosing and troubleshooting.

Check Engine Light On? Check This Out. . .

Do you have a "CHECK ENGINE" light on? You will. And when it does come on you have some choices as to what to do. You can take your car in to get it serviced (and spend more money) or you can get an OBD2 meter (and save money). I looked at a few devices and decided to go to OBD Diagnostics, Inc. The product, OBD2 ALL-IN-ONE scan tool did just what it was designed to do. It connects between the cars OBD2 port and my notebook computer. I loaded the drivers and software and the car was talking to my computer within a few minutes. The tool "found" the problem and I was able to fix the problem. I would have given a five star rating but there was no software docs. If you like to DIY, you need this tool

Question : 1988 Ranger problems part 2?
well i am back .. and i changed the MAP sensor and i checked out the ignition module... did a fuel filter change and a Fuel Pressure Regulator change .... its the famous 2.9 V6 and for those of you who know there is no EGR on this motor . .. i am still having problems with the truck dogging down while driving almost as if ... the fuel filter was clogging or something but yet ... the truck will idle all day long and no problem and rarely stalls .... and the check engine light doesnt come on ... and i bought one of these . Actron code scanners for Ford and the only thing i get is ... the Oxygen Sensor is running lean and does not switch .. and i have done replaced the Oxygen sensor in a vehicle before with .... with the same problem it was running rich or lean and changed it and it told me the same afterward .. so i cant think it is that sensor either ...... ... doesnt seem to be any Vacuum leakes .. and when it dogs out seems to put out a bit of smoke black smoke ... any ideas anyone?

Answer:
Check the forums here if nothing else comes up---http://www.therangerstation.com/ Black smoke would indicate running too rich--could be semi- plugged cat converter? If O2 is new and still get a code, maybe the wiring or connector is corroded---will give a false signal to the computer. You'd need a service manual with specs for O2 output signal to check. Could be a fuel leak in the carb/injector...maybe run some FI cleaner through the system a few times.

Question : Ford PAT System?
I have a 98 Ford Explorer and the Theft light has now started to blink quickly apon ignition. I only have one key to this vehicle and it will not start. It started fine always but drove to work and will not start no more. I was wondering if any Techs are out there that would know what would probably fail most: key failure or Transceiver failure? I get a 1260 Code on my Snap on 2500 scanner. If its the Transceiver do new ones need programing? I being led that they don't for the Key is the communication device and Transceiver just the antenna device. thanks,

Answer:
Pats system basics. The key is the transponder and the ring around the lock cylinder is the tranceiver. If you determine the tranceiver is bad(very unlikely) you do not have to program anything. If you determine the key is defective, then you will need to purchase two new keys and take it to a Ford dealership as you will not be able to reprogram them. Once you have two keys programmed you can add more of your own by cycling the two good ones then a new one(in your owners manual). But you will not be able to do anything until you get two keys programmed only by a Dealer. Possible reasons for this key not working anymore are it got dropped, was set on a code eraser on a checkout lane or another pats key for another vehicle on the same key chain or even transponders like Mobile Speed Pass can interfere. Good Luck!

Answer:
If I understand what you want properly, here is a program to complete what I think you want. Add more info if you need more help or if I misunderstood you. // START OF CODE import java.util.Scanner; public class carvan { public static void main(String [] args) { // resulting values double cost = 0.0; boolean Van = false; boolean Car = false; // input data double arrivalHours = 0.0; double arrivalMinutes = 0.0; double exitHours = 0.0; double exitMinutes = 0.0; String type; //type of vehicle Scanner keyboard=new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("What kind of car do you have? C for car || V for van "); type = keyboard.next(); if(type.charAt(0)=='C' || type.charAt(0)=='c') Car = true; else if(type.charAt(0)=='V' || type.charAt(0)=='v') Van = true; System.out.println("Enter arrival hour 0-23 "); arrivalHours=keyboard.nextInt(); System.out.println("Enter arrival minute 0-59 "); arrivalMinutes=keyboard.nextInt(); System.out.println("Enter exit hour "); exitHours=keyboard.nextDouble(); System.out.println("Enter exit minute "); exitMinutes=keyboard.nextDouble(); System.out.println("**************"); System.out.println("XXXXX"); System.out.println("**************"); double totalMins = ((exitHours*60.0)+exitMinutes) - ((arrivalHours*60.0)+arrivalMinutes); // find time stayed for if( Van ) // for a van { if( totalMins >= 60.0*8.57 ) // if it is more than or = to 8.57 hours, the cost will be $30 cost = 30.0; else // if parked for less than 8.57 hours cost = 3.50 * Math.ceil(totalMins/60.0); // 3.50 per hour (and round hours up, ex 3:20 = 4 hours) } else if( Car ) // for a car { if( totalMins >= 60.0*10.0 ) // if parked for more than or = to 10 hours, the cost will be $20 cost = 20.0; else // if parked for less than 10 hours cost = 2.0 * Math.ceil(totalMins/60.0); // 2.00 per hour } System.out.printf("Parking a " + (Van?"van":"car") + " for %02d:%02d will cost $%.2f.", (int)Math.floor(totalMins/60), ((int)totalMins)%60, cost); } } // END OF CODE Please ask here if you need more help! ;P

Question : chevy s10 service engine soon light came on then went off and now does not come on when key is turned on?
Anyway it has done this before and the chevy garage said it was a shorted ignition switch and chared me over a grand to replace it all now not ayear later it's doing it again so I brought it to an idependent dealer and hooked up the scanner well the scanner keeps saying must be hooked up to vehicle to read codes but it is hooked up any one know why this might be?

Answer:
i own a shop, and its not the computer that will cause this light to come on ,a faulty sensor will set this light, if it even runs bad ,on a damp day or anything,it doesn't take much to set it,i cant believe they charged that much to install a switch on it,id try looking around the computer for a loose harness,or one that isn't making good contact,if the light blows on some of these it will say that when you hook the scanner up to it.and it doesn't mean the computer is bad ,but the light affects the reading of the computer, since the light can be blown out,by the bulb being bad on it,this will make it say that, because it doesn't make a complete connection on it,you may have to pull the dash out of it,and replace the bulb before you can get it to scan it,i have seen a few of them like this before, all you can do is pull the dash and replace the bulb and then see,i don't think your going to have that much wrong with it,and if the switch shorts out ,the first thing it does is blow a fuse for it,and if its not blowing fuses i don't think you have a bad switch, they just don't go bad that often, check the bulb first, and then try scanning it again i think you,ll see a big difference in it,good luck,i hope this help,s.

Question : We have a 99 Chrysler that was Towed "No Start"?
Here's the story, a 300M was towed in to us with a no start condition. With a generic OBDII scanner no codes were returned, and the vehicle started upon the first try, we left it for several hours in the cold, again it started right up and was easily pulled into the service bay where I put our OTC Nemesis on it, thru the OEM link, i pulled a crank sensor code. which I then replaced.I then changed the oil and left for the evening. Upon returning to the shop in the morning, the 300M was not starting. So then, we replaced the cam sensor on a blind stab since the 300M would not kick out any other codes. Still, the vehicle will not start, I pulled the plugs to find them soaked with gas, cleaned and reinstalled, not start, warranteed them out for new, still no start, still flooding. After pulling a coil and grounding it and the spark, spark is clean and white, so i stuck a computer in it on my day off, problem still exists.

Answer:
Hook up a timing light and check for proper ignition timing. If thats OK, Hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank it over for 10-15 seconds to clear out all the residual gas in the intake. If the plugs are wet, there is WAY too much gas, or not enough air going to the engine.

Question : My vehicle is vibrating and exhaust is puttering out while in park????
I hooked my scanner up and got a trouble code of P0400 ??? what could be the problem. This happened yesterday after we go off the freeway. My vehicle is 95 Mercury Grand Marquis V8.

Answer:
EGR flow fault. Bad egr, bad vac line, clogged up intake, some possibilities. will give you the drivability problem you just described, as well.

Question : my appologies for not being more spacific?
this is on my 1994 chevy s10 truck the truck runs and on occasion it decides to stop running, its not throwing any trouble codes at all but the vehicles computer will not talk to my scanner and when in self diagnostic mode it only sends acknowledgment code, and that is all when it dies it usualy after being driven.ive replaced pugs, cap, rotorcap and ignition modual.fuel pressure is supposed to be good as stated this is intermitent, because there is no warning when it does it and it stays down for at a minimum of a half an hour to a hole day

Answer:
The computer sounds bad happened the exact same thing to my friends Beretta

Question : Whats wrong with my Honda?
its a 99 Honda Accord LX with a 4 cylinder F23 Vtec engine and 121,000 miles in it. While moving it abruptly shuts off and sometimes back on. Thinking it was a fuel problem i changed the fuel cap and the fuel filter and pump. I contacted my local Honda dealer to find out if any recalls where done on my vehicle. All the recalls that existed have already been done according to the dealer (including the ignition switch). The scanner is not giving any codes. Any suggestions will help. Thanks!

Answer:
it could be numerous of things...such as they stated the grounding wire...fuel relay...or just your ignition system (cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, or maybe the whole distrubitor....maybe even your fuel injectors being dirty...
